Sunday, February 20, 2011 – 7:00 PM
Universal Studios, The Globe Theatre
“Complex, candid and all-but-essential viewing for hearing audiences, Hilari Scarl’s intrepid debut feature, ‘See What I’m Saying: The Deaf Entertainers Documentary,’ educates without lecturing and engages without effort.”- New York Times Critics’ Pick
This breakthrough media event blends the much anticipated DVD release of See What I’m Saying – a beloved and multiple-award winning internationally acclaimed film about four well-known entertainers in the deaf community – CJ Jones (actor), TL Forsberg (singer), Robert DeMayo (actor) and Bob Hiltermann (drummer with the all-deaf rock band Beethoven’s Nightmare) and their struggles to crossover to mainstream audiences. The film is the first open captioned film in American history and is the buzz of filmmakers during Hollywood’s celebrated awards season.
Award-winning director Hilari Scarl will return to the legendary Universal Studios lot after her appearance there during Steven Spielberg’s reality television show ON THE LOT where Scarl was a finalist out of 12,000 filmmakers. The Gala will be at the state-of-the-art Globe Theatre, this Red Carpet Gala DVD Launch & Awards event will be attended by over 500 guests to celebrate the DVD launch by New Video and the Sprint See What I’m Saying Short Film Contest. The film is the first to be fully accessible at every screening to this country’s 30-million deaf and hard of hearing individuals as well as providing a window into deaf culture for those who are “signing impaired.”

One year later, See What I’m Saying has screened in over 100 cities around the world, received dozens of top awards from both mainstream festivals (including Philadelphia Film Festival and Newport Beach Film Festival) and deaf film festivals (WORLDEAF Cinema and D.C.
